Tachina fera

A striking fly, Tachina fera, on a bramble leaf in the woods on Hayes Common. 30 April 2011. The larvae are parasites on various caterpillars. Adults like this one eat flower nectar.

    Opinion is divided as to whether this fly is ugly or beautiful. I think beautiful.

    It is beautiful, indeed, IMO, but if it really stinks, that's another reason for respecting its life.
